FIRE
I keep a fire blanket and a fire extinguisher in the kitchen in case a fire should break out. I carry out fire drills shortly after a new child starts, and then every month so that all of the children in my care understand what they need to do in the event of a real fire. Over time, we will cover all eventualities, but always in a fun but controlled manner so that the children are not frightened or upset in any way.
When the alarm sounds downstairs, the children will be led out of the house via the closest exit and we will congregate either on the driveway at the front of the house or onto the patio to the rear. When the fire alarm sounds upstairs (this is practised in case of being trapped upstairs) children are shown the exit windows at the front and rear of the house which lead out on to flat top roofs.
